MDOT PERU-MEXICO BRIDGE PROJECT DETOUR UPDATE

In order to relocate the railroad crossing on North Main Street between Peru and Mexico, the Maine Department of Transportation will be implementing a detour starting on Monday, June 25th, 2018.  The duration of the detour is estimated at 7 days.  The start of the detour has been postponed by one week due to a delay in the delivery of the railroad’s crossing signals, which by Federal Law have to be installed in order to use the crossing in a construction zone.

During the detour, traffic will be re-routed onto Route 108,  the Veterans Memorial Bridge (next to the Rumford Mill), and Route 2; a detour of approximately 8.5 miles.

Note that North Main Street will be open to local traffic for access to homes and businesses on the Peru side via Route 108.  Access to the Bottle Redemption Center on the Mexico end of North Main Street will also be maintained via Route 2.  All businesses will remain open — please continue to patronize these establishments during the detour.  The Department will be placing a notice in local newspapers and/or on local radio stations & will be sending out notifications to area officials, agencies, and organizations 10 days prior to the detour, the day before and once North Main Street is re-opened.

MAINE WEST BROADBAND TECHNOLOGY PLAN TO BE PRESENTED JUNE 25TH, 2018

The Maine West Regional Broadband Technology Plan and recommendations for improving internet connectivity in northern Oxford County will be presented Monday, June 25, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in the Forum.  Mark Ouellette and Susan Corbett with Axiom Technologies will be on hand to present the plan and answer questions.

Twenty plus towns and unorganized territories in Maine West — Oxford Hills, River Valley and Bethel area — participated in the broadband planning process.  The Technology Plan prepared by Axiom includes a specific plan for each town that participated in the Maine West Broadband Initiative.  The town specific plans are designed to address goals identified by each town for increasing internet connectivity and, in particular, supporting job creation, business attraction, expansion and retention, business start-ups, telemedicine and education.

The Technology Plan and accompanying Digital Inclusion and Regional Workforce Plan were funded with a broadband planning grant from the ConnectME Authority to the Northern Forest Center which coordinates the Maine West initiative.  Community Concept Finance Corp. played a lead role coordinating community engagement across the region.
